S.M.A.R.T. goals stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely goals. Using a S.M.A.R.T. will help you stay on track and achieve your weight loss and lean muscles goals. It is important to use this system since it does have a specific meaning that helps to keep you focused on what you want to do. When it comes to the first letter, S, being specific about your goals means to write them down, create a vision board and keeping track of your progress. You will want to write down these goals and than focus on one or two of them at a time, since it can be hard to break old habits. As you meet these goals, begin adding in the other goals that you want to meet and working on those too.
Measurable or M means that you need to be able to see your progress through weighing your self and measuring your self too. Being able to see this progress and keep track of it will help you stay on task and keep moving forward. This is especially true as you see that you are losing weight and inches as well. You will want to measure the different areas of your body prior to starting your fitness plan. Than each day that you work out take these measurements again before beginning and continue doing this and keeping track of the numbers. The same goes for your weight too. Weigh your self on the start day of your fitness plan and then continue to weigh your self daily to see the progress that you have made. You will also be able to see when you need to mix up your routine or do something different as you hit muscle and weight loss plateaus too.
Attainable or A is setting goals that are actually achievable. You need to break your weight loss goals down into mini goals, which will be much easier to deal with and you will see progress in meeting these goals. Extreme weight loss goals can be over whelming when looked at as a whole. However, setting mini goals makes them easier to meet. As well as keeping in perspective how much weight to lose and how quickly to lose it too. Losing 5 to 10 pounds over the period of two months is attainable, however trying to lose 30 pounds in a month is not attainable. Goals that are not attainable and unhealthy can also mean you losing interest since you are not seeing any progress happen.
Realistic or R is create a work out schedule that is realistic and can actually be done. Create a schedule that fits with work and family time so that you can actually do it. Trying to work out 3 hours a day may not be possible with work and family time. Again, do not create a schedule and meals that are not realistic. This also includes not eating enough and trying to work out and starve your self to lose weight. It may work slightly at first, however over time you will gain weight and this will work against you as you lose muscle and gain fat instead.
Timely or T means to choose a time frame that is not to soon but not too long enough either. The time frame will work with the other letters as well, since this goes back to being realistic with your goals and setting goals that are attainable too.
Combining this all together will help you to stay on track and meet the fitness goals that you want to achieve. The S.M.A.R.T. goals method is very clear and concise, making it easier as well to succeed in losing weight and gaining lean muscle.
